Profiles: New Era Canning Company

New Era Canning

The New Era Canning Company process over 100 million pounds of produce every year.

The New Era Canning Company dates back to 1910, when Edward P. Ray started a small canning company to keep his fruit from perishing in the hot summer weather. Ray, an immigrant from Norway, shipped raspberries by rail to commission houses in Chicago.

Since then, the family business added another site in Montezuma, Georgia. New Era Canning now processes over 100 million pounds of produce annually. New Era's products include canned asparagus, apples, applesauce, green beans, wax beans, dry beans, pumpkin, and carrots.

Many of the workers during growing season are migrant workers who assist in picking and processing the fruit. New Era Canning provides approximately 90 positions each year.
