Michigan Foodways Dinner at The Common Grill

Craig Common

Craig Common, Executive Chef and Owner of The Common Grill, will host the Michigan Foodways Dinner at his Chelsea restaurant on March 19.

Mr. B

Mr. B is internationally acclaimed as one of the premier living exponents of traditional blues and boogie piano. He'll provide the evening's entertainment.

On March 19, Chef Craig Common provided an interpretation of the ultimate Michigan meal at his renown restaurant, The Common Grill. More than 100 attended the event, which included wine pairings for four courses and entertainment by special guest, Arts & Humanities Touring Program performer, Mr. B., Mark Lincoln Braun. Thank you to those who attended. We hope you had a fun and eventful evening! Proceeds from the event will be used to support the statewide tour of Michigan Foodways.

MENU:

First Course
Peppered Smoked Salmon Potato Leek Cake with Morel Basil Butter. Served with a Michigan Sparkling Wine.

Salad Course
Roasted Duck Confit Salad with Mixed Baby Greens, Roasted Pears, Sugared Black Walnuts Dressed with a Michigan Port Wine Vinaigrette. Served with a Michigan Red Wine.

Entrée Course
Parmesan Encrusted Lake Superior Whitefish with Michigan Bean Compote, Sweet Corn Risotto and Steamed Asparagus. Served with a Michigan White Wine.

Dessert Course
Sweet and Tart Traverse City Cherry Cobbler with Streusel Topping And Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Served with a Michigan Riesling.

Craig Common is one of Michigan's most heralded chefs. In November 1997, Craig was invited to the James Beard House, in New York City, to demonstrate his culinary skills at a dinner for members and guests. Also, in 1997 and 1998, The Common Grill was featured in Gourmet as a Top Table feature. Since its opening, the restaurant has consistently received outstanding reviews and ratings from critics and patrons alike. Gourmet praised The Common Grill for serving "fresh, novel American dishes." The Ann Arbor News heralded it "one of the brightest jewels in this area's culinary crown," and The Detroit News described it as "uncommonly grand."
