Profiles: Kern's Sausages

Kern's Sausages has been a staple of Frankenmuth since 1949, when it was known as the Corner Grocery. Marcus and Esther Kern created sausage to improve their share of the local market against eight other village grocers.

The first smokehouse was added in 1954.

Founder Marcus Kern and his sons Robert and Charles created a partnership in 1958. Now in the third generation of the Kern family, grandsons Kevin and Ronald make sausage daily -- over 32 varieties. Sausages include bratwurst, weiswurst, metwurst, landjaeger, knockwusrt, frankfurters, and summer sausage.
