The Pentamere Winery, located in Tecumseh, started in 2002, when Dan and Maria Measel decided to make a business out of their home wine-making hobby. The winery is located in a renovated, late-19th century building which once housed Anderson's Grocery and Larry's Diner. The winery is growing incrementally with 1,000 cases produced in 2006 for the first time -- considered a boutique winemaker in the industry. The winery uses Michigan-grown grapes when possible. All of the grapes came from the state in 2005 and 60% in 2006 (with the remaining 40% from Ohio and Ontario). Pentamere produces 17 varieties of wines, including Chardonnay. Oaken barrels from Kentucky are used for the Chardonnay. The grape basket press and the tanks are from Italy. Resources: Pentamere winery. (2006). Building a winery [online resource].
